All of you know my now my love, admiration and total obsession with Urban Decay’s eyeshadows. I have said a million times how they are most probably the best in the market. They also happen to make amazing eye pencils which come in a great variety of colors. In fact all that’s left is for Urban Decay to hire me for advertising. Did you hear that UD guys? Hello??? Well it was worth a shot, right?
So for quite some time I only cared about UD’s eye products, never dwelling on their face and lip products range. But when they launched their Revolution lipsticks in July 2013 as part of their Fall 2013 collection, I decided to check them out. Well actually, its more of a relaunch as UD reformulated their old lipsticks range and introduced new and more colors. At the same time they reformulated and relaunched their lip pencils as well.
To be precise Urban Decay launched twenty lipstick shades plus two exclusive to their website only. They range from deep dark purple to light nude pink.

Urban Decay’s Revolution Lipsticks

Various shades of UD lipsticks
It was the color range that really attracted me to give this product a try. I’m not much of a dark lipstick fan but it’s the light pink, peach, coral shades that attract me. Also, I like my lipsticks to be a bit lustrous and having some sheen and as far as I can make out, this range doesn’t have matte shades.
The lip pencils were launched in sixteen shades, one of them being Ozone (white in color) which can be used with any lipstick to increase its staying power and to prevent bleeding of lipsticks.

Urban Decay Lip Pencils
The best thing about these lip pencils is that they have been designed in such a way that they match the twenty two shades of of UD’s lipsticks, so we don’t have to go running to the market to find a lip pencil that will go with our UD lipstick. Here is a look of the matches created by Urban Decay.

Invisibly holds color in place and prevents feathering.

The lipsticks come in UD’s signature purple packaging. I just love the lipstick tubes. They are silver grey metallic, almost resembling a bullet, with Urban Decay embossed on the side. Very fashionable and high class. In fact this is the best lipstick tube designI have seen till now. Pssttt MAC are you listening??
The lip pencils are very similar in packaging to UD’s eye pencils. If not for the fact that UD has almost no pink or red eye pencils, I would have got easily confused.
The Naked lipstick and lip pencil are a light nude pink shade. The lipstick is semi opaque on application but paired with the lip pencil provides complete coverage. The Liar lipstick and lip pencil are a brownish pink color. The lipstick is completely opaque and paired with the lip pencil provides double opaqueness.
Urban Decay was certainly not kidding when they claimed their lipsticks to be
Creamy, badass luxury. Our Pigment Infusion System™ delivers insane color payoff with creamy shine, Maxi-Lip™ plumps and nourishing oils leave lips cushiony soft.
The lipsticks are certainly very creamy, soft and smooth in application. They glide on very easily and give good color payoff, even the light color ones like Naked. They leave the lips moisturised and stay on for 2-3 hours easily. If you pair them with their lip pencils, they stay put for a longer period of time, 4-5 hours for me. Of course as long as no eating or drinking comes in between. But even then, they linger on the lips.
The best method I have found for lipstick application and this is something that Huda Kattan also confirmed, is that start by exfoliating your lips (keep an old tooth brush for that). Than line your lips with a lip pencil and fill in your lips with it as well. Apply your lipstick over it and than blot out your lips with a tissue paper. THAN and this is the part that Huda said one must do, is gently pat on your loose face powder, pressed powder or a blush which matches your lipstick on your lips completely. Finally apply your lipstick over it once again. This method is sure to keep your lipstick on your lips longer than usual. You can use lip primers from Urban Decay, MAC, Too Faced, but the above method works just as well.
Is it a Hit? Great for people who love lustrous, sheeny lipsticks, smooth and creamy application, hydrating for the lips, comes in dark and light color shades, good color payoff and more than decent staying power.
Is it a Miss? Matte lipstick lovers won’t dig this, a bit pricey, available online only.
So, what’s your verdict? Yay or Nay? As for me, I really, really like these lipsticks a lot and am thinking of going into the uncomfortable and ordering a couple of dark shades from this range as well, especially the red and fuschia pink. I have never had such bold colors I am quite liking UD’s bold lip colors. The only problem is that they are available online only. I have no idea why the Sephora here has not got this range, even though its months old. Oh well, I am pretty sure it will be slightly more expensive when it comes to Sephora anyways. Long Live LookFantastic.
Hope you guys enjoyed this post.

Great in depth and helpful post. I’m really wanting to try a good lipstick and the revolution one is among the wish list but I’m limited on what I can spend money on! Ah the struggle of makeup addicts!
I’m with you on the struggle. The UD lippies are indeed good quality n have great pigmentation. I have a few other from the range. I think its worth investing n getting a couple from this range
